Enid Blyton (11th August, 1897 - 28th Nov., 1968) has been the most famous and loved author for the children books in the twentieth century. Since early childhood, she showed inclination towards music and reading. She was trained to be a kindergarten teacher. Much above everybody's expectation, Enid Mary Blyton (also known as Mary Pollock) rose to be a prolific children books author and wrote over 800 books for children! She wrote on an average 40 books a year. Her writings and plots are said to have come from her unconscious mind spontaneously.....her speed of writing seemed to surprise her critics so much that at one time she was accused to have employed ghost writers under her!! The world famous Blyton signature is a byword for fun and action-packed stories, appealing to boys and girls from pre-school to early teens. She created an unrivaled group of successful and internationally renowned series which include mystery and adventure stories such as The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, and The Mystery Series, school stories such as Malory Towers and St Clare's, fantasy tales such as The Faraway Tree (including The Enchanted Wood) and of course the much-loved Noddy stories for younger children.
Her books have been translated in 90 languages and over 600 million copies have been sold till date. According to the survey of Index Translationum in 2007, Enid Blyton is said to be the 5th most popular author in English Language, after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare!!
