The editors are pleased to join with Oxford & IBH Publishers in bringing out this first issue of Harappan Studies, a series dedicated to furthering our understanding the first civilization in India and Pakistan. Harappan Studies is to bea series, open to articles from all interested in the study of this ancient culture. As is appropriate to an international intellectual undertaking articles that appear in these volumes will have gone through peer review and revision prior to publication. Our intent in adhering to this practice is to produce papers that have been both carefully edited, and have intellectual focus on the larger Harappan world.
We have chosen to define the Harappan Civilization in as wide a context as possible and a wide range of apers will be accepted for publication as long as their primary message is to inform us about the life and times of the Indus peoples. This will include contributions on Harappan archaeology and the Gulf, relationships between Mesopotamia, Iran, Central Asia and the Harappan Civilization and a wide range of research on the civilization itself. While contributions on the Harappan glyptic arts will be accepted, those that deal with the many claims for the decipherment of the Indus script will be more carefully evaluated.
An editorial board of eight distinguished students of the Harappan Civilization has been appointed to assist the editors and the publisher in the management of Harappan Studies.
