The book "Agrarian Economy in Andhra under Vijayanagar" is a study of the agricultural conditions and the systems prevailing in land control and land revenue in the Telugu speaking districts of the Vijayanagar Empire. In analysing the economic conditions, the manuscript utilises the Telugu sources, both epigraphical and literary, for which not much attention was paid so far, thus being able to bring out new information in this regard. This work, while focussing on the conditions in Andhra under Vijayanagar rule also makes a comparative analysis of the systems prevailing in the Tamil and Kanarese regions of the empire. The work makes use of the new methods of statistical analysis in studying the temple records.
The work contains six chapters. The first chapter is the geographical and historical background, formaing the introduction to the study. The second chapter deals with the Agrarian Pattern in Andhra during the medieval period. The third chapter is on land tenures, while the fourth deals with the land revenue-assessment and collection. The role of temple in the agrarian economy is studied in the fifth chapter. The sixth chapter is the resume.
