This is not the conventional type of anthology. An original conception of 'anthologysing' underlies FROM COMORIN TO KASHMIR. True to the title, in this anthology of Malayalam stories, there are presented Himalayan hill tribes, Tamil traders and Kannada women begging for a living beyond their own native borders, a blind man consoling himself by reciting verses from Kuchela Vrit, a Muslim Moulana with a passionate love for his motherland and poor destitute Christians having as their spokesmen Nayars. Hindus. That is identity indeed - Indian identity. But the important thing is that the stories here and in other Indian regional languages go back to certain fundamental values, to a tradition of moral and human values.
This concern for moral and human values come to life in the stories of Karoor, Takazhi and others. Not affirmations of moral values only, but violations of values too-conflicts and contradictions in the moral human context.
Limited number of writers with wider presentation for each of the writers, critical notes on the writers and learned introduction enhance the value of this unusual anthology.
"I an reading the stories now...with enjoyment and great appreciation. I particularly valu the distinctive flavour each one some how has."
Professor Ashley Halpe, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on this book.
