Sankaracarya's Brahmasutrabhasya, also known as the Sarirakamimamsabhasya, which presents an Advaita interpretation of Badarayana's Brahmasutra, is the greatest exposition of the basic tenets and most inelligent dialoctics of the Advaita school of the Vedanta philosophy. The Bhasya has been commented upon by a number of masterminds of classical and medieval India and that a few sub-schools of inter-pretation of Sankara's text have emerged. The most eminent of those sub-schols are known as the 'Bhamatiprasthana' and the 'Vivarana-prasthana'. The former was initiated bv Vacaspatimisra (9th cent.) through his Bhamati on the Bhasya of Sankara, while the latter by Prakasatman (10th/11th cent.) through his Panca-Padikavivarana, a supercommentary on the Pancapadika, a commentary on the Bhasya by Padmapadacarya, Sankara's direct disciple.
There are a few differences in the approach of the two sub schools, e.g. whether the hearing 'Sravana' of the Vedanta texts is enjoined as a pre-requisite to the ultimate realization; position of Mulavidya (The basic nescence) in respect of jiva (individual soul); respective interrelation among sravana (hearing), manana (Retrospection) and nididhyasana (concentration); whether the qualified Brahman or the Suddha Brahman is the object of Akhandakaravrtti; etc...
