THIS volume presents an absorbing account of the proceeding s of the first Asian History Congress held at New Delhi in December 1961. The paper read at the Congress and the discussions that ensued reflect the widespread recognition of the need to encourage research and study of the history of the peoples of Asia as a whole in the larger context of the world.
One of the important resolutions adopted by the Congress recommends steps for preparation, preservation and publication of an Asian Historical Bibliography based on National Bibliographies – to be prepared by individual countries.
It is hoped that this volume will serve to stimulate interest in comparative studies of historical problems and will facilitate attempts at an integrated interpretation of the various aspects of historical development in Asia.
