Japan, one of the world's most beautiful countries, has a rich literary heritage. Japanese stories reflect a deep sense of tradition and a great sensitivity to nature. For many centuries Japanese stories remained unknown to the world, as the language was difficult to learn. In the 1900's translations became available and the greatness of Japanese literature came to light.
The earliest folktales are found along with other myths and legends into of the oldest existing works of japanese literature - 'The Record of Ancient Matters' and 'The Chronicles of Japan'.
